Sara’s experience in EuMove

The first groups of the EuMove project in the month of May carried out their mobility experiences.

A group of five Italians young people went to Coimbra in Portugal, and a group of five Portuguese went to Bologna in Italy.

Below we present the testimony of Sara, 26-year-old Italian girl, about the experience she is having in EuMove.

“The project began with an online training period that allowed me to improve my spoken English and learn basic Portuguese, essential tools for interacting effectively both at work and in everyday life once I arrived in Coimbra. These lessons were also an important opportunity to get to know the other project participants, with whom I would later share a home during my experience abroad.

During our first days in Coimbra, we met the Mondego tutors, who accompanied us on a guided tour of the city and visited our respective companies to meet the tutors, who explained the job responsibilities.

I am working in a small restaurant in the center of Coimbra, where the owner is always very kind, helpful, and welcoming. I’m working part-time from Monday to Friday, taking care of various tasks: I help in the kitchen with food preparation, plating, cleaning, and table service, including taking customer orders.

I particularly appreciated the family atmosphere within the restaurant, frequented daily by both regulars and tourists from around the world eager to sample the local cuisine.

Although I’m communicating primarily in English, I am able to complete all the required tasks, meet the customers’ needs, and establish a good relationship with the owner. This experience is helping me improve my self-confidence, adaptability and language skills.

Cohabitation with the other students on the project is also positive. I’m going along well with my roommates, and we are having the opportunity to share not only the house, but also leisurely moments and exchange views on our work and personal experiences.

Thanks to this experience, I am having the opportunity not only to meet new people and experience a different culture, but also to enrich my personal and professional journey, helping me improve my language, organizational, and communication skills, which will undoubtedly be useful for my future career.”

These first groups are finishing their mobilities and will soon return home with the wealth of experience and skills gained thanks to the project.

The EuMove team will work to make the most of these skills and help the participants navigate the choices for their future.

Meanwhile, we are training the participants of the next mobility programs: new trips, new experiences, new adventures!

Stay tuned!!
